Chirstmas celebration at Gersong village in Udalguri

Christmas was celebrated at a remote Assam-Arunachal border village Gersong on December 25 with gaiety.The programme was held at Gersong Baptist Church under the supervision of church pastor Anil Daimary. Bilson Basumatary,chairperson of the ceremony in his welcome message thanked villagers and people of other communities and requested all to preach peace friendship and happiness.Satyanath Basumatary attended the ceremony as the religious speaker of the day.It was good to see him deliver his speech in Assamese language although they used to preach in English and Bodo only.It needs mention that people of other communities were also invited as distinguished guests on the occasion.The villages were spectacularly decorated and everybody joined in cleaning the villages always."Our people love cleanliness and we always keep our villages clean irrespective of the celebration,ceremony or festival etc",said Ismail Daimari a leading citizen of the village.He also said that their villages would draw attention of the world for cleanliness if exposed properly to the world by media and people.Two specially able (blind) boys namely- Nyonok Talang of Arunachal Pradesh and Birdul Daimari of Gersong village were felicitated in public for their excellency in singing.The boys could steal the hearts of people present with several sweet songs in English and Assamese language.Later Nyonok Talang from Arunachal Pradesh told this correspondent,(who was present at the ceremony as the invited guest,)that Jubin Garg has been his most popular singer.
