Udalguri DC's move to solve public greviences welcomed
The Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri along with high civil officials met representatives of various organizations of Kalaigaon areas on August 4 at the office of the BDO Kalaigaon on a few longpending public demands like the dilapidated condition of the MB road connecting Mangaldai to Bhutan via-Kalaigaon-Tangla-Paneri-Bhutiachang-Samran;encroachment on public lands;formation of Kalaigaon Town Committee etc.The meeting cum open discussion was convened by SS Meenakshi Sundaram,IAS,DC Udalguri in response to a few public petitions.The meeting was also attended by Maheswar Bodo, MLA,Kalaigaon;Jagadish Sarkar,MCLA,BTC; MP Sarma, Project Director, DRDA, Udalguri; Debajyoti Dutta,ADC,Bhergaon. Representatives of various organizations like AASU, ABSU,AJYCP,Bengali Federation, Kalaigaon Nagarik Manch;Kalaigaon Press Club etc.
Dinamoni Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle in his welcome speech explained about a few serious problems of the people while Debajyoti Dutta,ADC,Bhergaon conducted the proceeding of the meeting.N Islam,asstt.executive engineer,PWD,explained about the latest developments on the matter of upgradation of historic MB road from Kalaigaon to Samran (40 KM).He said that only the first phase of the upgradation (from Mangaldai to Kalaigaon) had nearly been completed and proposals for upgradition of the remaining two phases (from Kalaigaon to Tangla and then Tangla to Samran) had yet to receive government approval.He further said that another proposal of Rs.75 crores had been submitted under NLCPR scheme of DONER;but yet to receive approval of the BTC authority.Speakers namely-Kami Ram Saharia,Mahendra Saikia,Jayanta Kumar Das,Dandi Kumar Bodo,Lohit Chandra Nath,Kamal Prasad Sarma,Sukleswar Deka beside AASU, ABSU,AJYCP officials highlighted various major social problems of the areas like encroachment on public places,sub-standard works of the PWD and Health department contractors,blokage of MB road at Ramhari by a first class PWD contractor,formation of Kalaigaon Town Committee,unification of two weekly Kalaigaon marketsetc. MP Sarma, PD,DRDA,Udalguri and Jagadish Sarkar,MCLA,BTC also addressed the meeting.Both of them expressed hope that district and BTC authorities would solve all the problems in time.
In his concludingspeech,Deputy Commissioner Meenakshi Sundaram remarked that most of the public demands realated to subjects which had already been transferred to BTC authority.He said that in BTC areas district administration could look after law and order situation only.But he assured people that both the district and BTC administrations would do best to solve all the problems, not to halt developmental works in any way. The DC ordered the PWD and Revenue officials to evict all the encroachers within one month so as to complete the construction of drainage system in Kalaigaon town.In this regard he appealed all the organizations not to presurise contractors for donations as that could very much effect the substandard of the works. Later in the day the DC and the Project Officer visited several places including Kalaigaon State Dispensary (estd in 1886) where they assured people to post another doctor shortly.They also thanked Dr.C.P.Payeng i/c of the dispensary for his single handed service to the people of Kalaigaon areas.
