A powerful IED weighing 5 kgs was recovered by 315 Field Regiment (KARGIL) of Red Horns Division on the morning of June 25 in the village Uttar Kuiabil (under Kalaigaon Police Station) on the busy road connecting Harisingha to Kalaigaon.Source reveal that some local children of the village had observed some freshly dug earth along the road in the wee hours and informed the village elders who in turn informed the the Army.At the same time, three unidentified persons were also seen roaming around in the area. On receipt of the information, the troops of 315 Field Regiment (KARGIL) rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. The locals handed over one of the suspicious person to the army while one managed to escape and the third one was in the Govt Hospital, Harisingha after being beaten by the locals. The apprehended persons are Subung Boro and Imanuel Basumatari. Imanuel Basumatari told media persons that he had been paid an amount of Rs.500 along with bottles of wine for planting the bomb. The cooperation by the villagers indicate a definite tide in the favour of the Govt with the local population willing to march towards peace

Mentally retarded mother of three brutally murdered after gang rape in Assam


The brutal gang rape and murder of a 35 years old mentally retarded woman at Kalaigaon has created sensation in the district.According to information,one Alagjan Khatun (35) daughter of Mosarab Ali of Puthiakhat village,under Kalaigaon Police Station had been brutally murdered at Kalaigaon LP School premises on the night of June 13 at 11 PM.She had ben subjected to gang rape by two culprits before killing her.Her blood stained body was recovered by Kalaigaon police from the school campus at 11.The ded body was identified by her father at Kalaigaon police station the next day at 10 am.According to her father,she had two sons and a daughter. Her husband one Lalan Ali (45) had left her with all the three children a few years back to marry another woman at Arimari Chapari. The cold blooded murder of the mentally retarded woman created sensation in and around Kalaigaon. Various organizations including Kalaigaon Mahila Samiti,submitted memorandum to the civil and police administration demanding arrest of the culprits. Dina Mani Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle and magistrate I/C ordered postmortem of the body after spot verification. TR Pegu,SDPO Bhergaon Sub-division;Debajit Deuri,SP,Udalguri visited Kalaigaon to supervise the arrest of the culprits. After vigorous search Kalaigaon police successfully arrested Lasman Basfar,alias Bakuly,son of Raju Basfar of Prafulla Nagar,Mangaldai and Dulu Basak alias Petla, son of Sunil Bask of Kalaigaon. The duo confessed to have committed the crime. According to them, they took the woman to Sigrimari LP School at 10 pm offering her food.The duo also said that they had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of killing and raping the woman .Satyajit Nath,Additional SP,Udalguri requested people to cooperate with police to control social crimes while talking to media persons at Kalaigaon Police Station in the evening of June 14.He assured that police would left no stone unturned to prosecute the culprits,who had been booked under KLG
PS case No.34/2011 U/S 302,376,34 IPC.

Udalguri DC to monitor punctuality in schools in the district

“Udalguri district administration has taken up several tough measures to improve the academic atmosphere in the schools of the district for better education to students.District administration will launch massive operations to ensure punctuality of students and teachers in all the schools.Strict actions will be taken against those teachers if found irregular in duties”.So said Thaneswar Malakar, noted writer cum Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri at a function organised at Kalaigaon to felicitate a few meritorious students,who had passed the last HSLC examination securing distinction and star marks.”Kendukalai” a socio-economic organisation of Kalaigaon organised the programme at Kalaigaon Circle Office premises at 3 pm on June 8. The DC on the occasion remarked that he had already started visiting schools to monitor punctuality and regularity of the teachers and students.He advised teachers to attend school positively at 10 am and to complete courses regularly.He even advised headmasters and principals to take minimum three classes in a day. The DC also gave instructions on other important matters like – arrangement of regular staff meeting,mmeeting with the guardian for improvement of the educational environment, invitation to ex. mmeritorious sstudents and arrange discussion about the classes and improvement of education,sspecial tutorial class during hholidays,reduction of the hholidays and arrangement of all kind of condolence meeting only after 4th period.At the same time the DC advised students to show respect to parents and teachers. Noted journalist Bhargab Kumar Das anchored the proceeding of the felicitation meeting which was also address by Gitali Kalita,Principal,Deomornoi TDC College;Hareswar Baishya,Principal (Retd), Outala HSS; Gopal Borah,HM (Retd), Bholabari HS;,Kandeswar Deka, Principal,Kalaigaon HSS.Madhab Sarma,Principal,JNV Kalaigaon presided over the meeting.The felicitated students were- Birinchi Bhardwaj,Nilotpala Saharia, Biswajit Bora,Dhiraj Deka,Mokhtar Ali Ahmed (Kalaigaon HSS);Jugal Kishore Baishya,Joyshree Barman and Kalyan Tamuli (Pachim Silpota HS); Satabdi Sarkar (BLES,Kalaigaon);Plutuma Boro (Sunjwrang HS,Kalaigaon).Gitanjali Sarma, another meritorious girl belonging to a very poor family was also felicitated in the meeting.The DC awarded her with an amount of Rs.1000 as special reward.
It needs mention that although situated in most remote disturbed areas and hit by frequent bandhs,students belonging to both private and provincialised schools have shown satisfactory performance in the examinations.In the HS (CBSE), JNV, Kalaigaon school topped the success list with 98.5% success.Students of Kalaigaon College and Kalaigaon HSS have shown excellence in HS examination with 94% and 84 % success. In the HSLC examination Kalaigaon HSS topped the success list among the government schools in Udalguri district with 90% success. Out of 108 students,97 passed.(2 with distinction marks, 3 star marks and 13 in first division). Students of Bholabari HS and Pachim Silpota HS also performed very well with 100 % success.The results of a few other provincialised schools of Kalaigaon area are -Sunjwrang HS, 95 %;Kalaigaon Girls HS,84% ;Tengabari Janata Vidyapith HS,83% and BLES Kalaigaon, 90 %.

Female leopard tortured to death in Orangajuli TE


In another cruel human act in Udalguri district, a female leopard was beaten to death in Orangajuli TE on June 8 at 3 pm.The leopard which had by mistake entered human locality called Samosa Line (labour line) when hundreds of villagers equipped with dao and lathi attacked the panicked animal.A boy named Johan Kerkata was injured while attacking the animal.The forest officials arrived at the spot at 4 pm.But the agitated villagers tried to attack them,demanding compensation on the spot.Later the dead leopard was taken to Nonai Range Office for post mortem and cremation.According to forest officials the killed leopard was 30 inch tall and 35 inch long with the 30 inch long tail. Range Officer,Nonai Forest Range Office has already filed an FIR at Paneri police Station (N/FIR/11/532 Dated June 8).
In the meantime,nature loving people of Udalguri district strongly condemned the brutal killing of the female leopard in Orangajuli TE and the electrocution of the wild tusker in Hatigarh TE in just one week in the district.Former Minister and MLA,Udalguri,Rihon Daimari;Santias kunjur,EM,BTC have express sorrow at the killing of the leopard. Daimari also said that he would raise the matter on the floor of assembly.

Unusual celebration of World Environment Day near India-Bhutan villages


Unusual celebration of World Environment Day by villagers and students near Indo-Bhutan international border at Swapangaon near Bhairabkunda on June 5 has been appreciated by nature lovers.Far away from the hue and cry of the towns, nearly three hundred students,teachers,members of JFMC (Joint Forest Management Committee) and villagers planted at least five hundred khoir,gomari and titachapa saplings on the bank of Dhansiri river.They also walked through the picturesque new forests for two hours.The programme was organised jointly by Dhansiri Forest Division and six JFMCs.A colourful procession by students ,villagers,officials and media persons marked the begining of the programme at 10 am.It was flagged off by Mihir Kumar Barua, ADC, Udalguri and guided by Bankim Sarma,DFO,Dhansiri Division.

An awareness meeting was held at the plantation site which was presided over by Mihir Kumar Barua,ADC,Udalguri.Bankim Sarma,DFO Dhansiri Forest Division in his welcome speech explained the significance of the World Environment Day.On the occasion he said that the year 2011 had been declared as the International Year of Forestry by UNO.Interacting with the students he explained about the damages posed by pollution and deforestation.MP Sarma, PD,DRDA, Udalguri attended the programme as the guest of honour.He specially focussed on global warming and its impact on people.Jayanta Kumar Das,District Coordinator NCSC requested students to be a part of the conservation activities and saying that what elders could not do the students would do to save this planet.Col.Sunil Upadhaya, Commanding Officer,315 Field Regiment,(KARGIL); Esmail Daimari, JFMC,Bhairabkunda; Tecnath Upadhaya, AT,Rajib Gandhi HS, Swapangaon;Fagun Daimari, AT,Sonaigaon HS also spoke a few words on the occasion.Naba Kumar Bordoloi Range Officer offered vote of thanks at the end.

It is worth mentioning that Dhansiri forest Division,Udalguri in association with all the seven  JFMC namely -Sonaigaon, Bhairabkunda,Swapangaon,1 No Mazargaon,2 No Mazargaon Goroimari  and Mazbat have converted a plot of barren lands measuring 2240 hectre in to a new picturesque forest by planting khoir,gomari,simul,shisum etc near Dhansiri river,very close to Bhutan and Arunachal.Conservation activists hoped that the place would draw the attention of tourists all over the world,if government developed infrastructure of the area.

HSLC toppers felicitated at Udalguri in Assam



 “High school leaving Cerificate Examination is no doubt a turning point to a student to decide his future career. If a student inculcates self confidence in him or her, his confidence would be rewarded in the long run.” This was said by Thaneswar Malakar, deputy commissioner of Udalguri district on June 2 last at a felicitation programme arranged by the Udalguri town based private school Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial school on the occasion of felicitation to the outgoing successful HSLC candidates who brought glory to the school with 13th rank an star marks along with seven other first divisioners.
Addressing the students and guardians and teachers of the school, the deputy commissioner, who himself is an acclaimed author of a good number of books in Assamese observed that the teachers and parents are those gentle souls in the world who feel ‘real happiness’ when his or her students get high rank in the examinations. He also advised the students to follow the ideal shown by Priya Dutta, the 13th rank holder from the school in the recently declared HSLC examination.
The meeting on the occasion was also addressed by Rihon Daimari, former PHE minister and present MLA of Udalguri LAC, M Banu, inspector of schools of Udalguri district circle, PK Daimari, MCLA of BTC assembly, Sukumar Dutta, vice principal of Udalguri College and Jayanta Kuamr Das,coordinator of NCSC Udalguri district  among many others.
The felicitation program chaired by Ramnivash Agarwalla, president of the school was anchored by Khargeswar Boro, vice principal of the school where Priya Dutta and Kriti Chetry, the students with outstanding result from the school also shared their experiences.


World Environment Day in Udalguri district in Assam



The District administration of Udalguri is ready to observe World Environment Day centrally at Udalguri on June 5.On 2nd June, the Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri Thaneswar Malakar Presided over an emergent meeting at his Office Chamber where D.F.O., Dhansiri Division Bankim Sarma,ACF Madhurjya Sarma,ADC Kulen Talukdar,ADC Manjit Brahma ADC Mihir Barua,SDO(C), Bhergaon Loknath Mahanta,EAC Pranjal Das,BDO Khoirabari Prabitra Das, AEE PWD(B) Udalguri Karuna Das, PWD Official Md.Ali,Hareswar Basumatary and Munin Sharma both from district administration attended the meeting.The meeting decided to revive the Mission Green Udalguri. In the eve of World Environment Day on June 5 sapling of various trees will be planted in 15 bighas land near Swapangaon under Bhairabkunda Reserve Forest as a part of mission Green Udalguri.After that distribution of sapling and awareness campaign about Environment. The Deputy Commissioner also suggested to make plantation at new 200 bedded Hospital Complex, Jail Complex and near the Udalguri Satdium. He also suggest to choose fruit bearing sapling instead of ornamental sapling. The Deputy Commissioner as to ban below twenty micron plastic bags through out the district and arrange a special awareness campaign about the bad effect about use of polythene. The Deputy Commissioner emphasised to encourage the involvement of young generation in the process of afforestation and to stop illigal trafficing of forest property at any cost.He also asked to organize Quiz/Drawing Competition on environment amongst the youth. Media was also requested to promote the Mission.The DC cordially invited all to take part in environment Day and Mission Green Udalguri. World Environment Day will also be observed at Khoirabari under the auspices of Bhergaon Civil Administration as informed by the SDO(C),Bhergaon. The Day will also be observed at Mazbat.
MASS Environment awareness campaign amoungst the Students will be held at their School/Colleges and in this regard programme will be chalk out in a meeting at DC's Office on June 7 where aa the Colleges/H.S School and High Schools teaching Faculty will meet alongwith ranked holder Students of the District for felicitation from District administration.
