HSLC invigilator expelled in Udalguri district:
One Sishu Ram Bhuan,science teacher of Chengapather Higher Secondary School,who had been booked for helping examinees on February 21 at Bholabari HSLC centre was finally expelled from HSLC duty for three years by Mehjubin Banu, Inspector of Schools ,Udalguri district on February 24. The incident has created sensation in the district.The Inspector of Schools, Udalguri told this correspondent the she had seen an examinees copying from books even in the presence of the said invigilator.The teacher has been debarred from HSLC examination duty for a period of three years. People of Kalaigaon have welcomed the action against unfair means.

Awareness meeting on cancer held at Kalaigaon
People for people,a Kalaigaon based NGO,in association with ICCN (Indian Cancer Care Network),organised a cancer awareness meeting on February 22 at Kalaigaon. The awareness meeting was held at Garubandha High School. Mukunda Ram Choudhury,MLA,Kalaigaon LAC inaugurated the programme
after Mahesh Deka Asstt. Secretary of the NGO introduced the guests and experts. MLA Choudhury spoke on the necessity of creating awareness among village people for early diagnosis of various types of cancer. Attending the programme as a cancer specialist Dr.Jadunath Buragohain, Asstt. Professor (surgical oncology) of Guwahati Medical College Hospital explained the causes and treatment of this dreaded disease in simple language with multimedia presentation. He said that fifty percent of cancer caused by chewing of paan or tobacco. Moreover, 150 people in a lakh suffer from lung cancer who used to smoking;while only 50 non smoking people suffer from lung cancer in the world. In India the recovery rate has been low because of late detection,he said. He requested people to come forward for early diagnosis. According to him Guwahati Medical College Hospital would be fully equipped with all modern machines to treat all types of cancer within this year.
Usha Goswami,Counsellor,ICCN also addressed the meeting. She said that ICCN office in GMCH is always ready to help people during Monday to Saturday. Dr.Dibyaraj Choudhury, president,People for People requested people to come forward for early detection of cancer without wasting time.Senior journalist Jayanta Kumar Das also spoke on the occasion.The meeting was presided over by Ratna Kanta Saharia. It needs mention that NGO “People for People” has been working for rural health care awareness since 2011.
