Inspire Award,Solar Lantern and BPL scholarships distributed to meritorious students in Udalguri

Udalguri district administration sponsored an award distribution ceremony on March 19 in DCs conference hall,Udalguri for the distribution of 'Inspire Awards',Solar Lanterns and BPL scholarships to selected meritorious students of the district. The ceremony was sponsored jointly by the office of the Inspector of Schools,Udalguri and District Education Office Udalguri in association with Udalguri district administration.Delivering welcome speech, Mehzubin Banu,Inspector of schools Udalguri explained about the awards and scholarships. According to her five students who had won five thousand rupees each in cash as 'Inspire Awards' during the session 2010-2011 for making excellent science models could not be awarded due to technical problem. She also informed that Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC),Guwahati had already launched a special programme offering Solar Lanterns to girl students of the state who stood first in the class nine annual examination. In Udalguri district 15 such meritorious girls were given Solar Lanterns. An amount of rupees 3,42,000 as BPL scholarship were distributed to BPL students. Post Metric BPL scholarship of Rs.2400 and pre metric BPL scholarship of Rs.1800 were distributed to deserving students of various schools. The ceremony was presided over by noted writer cum Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri Thaneswar Malakar, which was attended by students, teachers and heads of the institutions of the district. Former Minister,Rihon Daimari (present MLA,Udalguri)attended the ceremony as the chief guest. He requested all the heads of the institutions to avail all the schemes and programmes launched for the benefit students. He remarked that lack of enthusiasm and knowledge of current development in the field of science and technology had deprived thousands of deserving students in the district. He requested Udalguri DC to organise an emergency meeting of the heads of institutions (both government and private) so as to inform them about latest programmes and schemes meant for the students. Thaneswar Malakar,DC Udalguri in his presidential speech offered all possible help from district administration in organising science based activities in schools. He also criticised a few heads of the institutions who had misappropriated students scholarship money. In this regard the Deputy Commissioner said that most of the schools were in the habit of utilising students funds (including scholarship money) for other activities like construction of buildings. The meeting was also addressed by Jayanta Kumar Das,District Coordinator,NCSC,Udalguri and Dr.L Daimary,Principal Udalguri College. Mihir Kumar Baruah,ADC, Kulen Talukdar,ADC and MP Sarma,Project Director DRDA,Udalguri also attended the ceremony.
