Wild elephant electrocuted near Bornadi WLS
In another tragic incident an adult male wild elephant has been eletrocuted neat Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary in the night of July 8. According to information the elephant died on spot after it had come in to contact of loosely erected high voltage electric wires. Surprisingly most of all electric lines have been hanging from temporary bamboo poles causing threat to wild elephants as well as people. ASEB is totally inactive in tea garden and forest areas there by allowing tea garden management and common people to take own illegal connection at will. So far five people and two wild elephants lost lives in Udalguri district in June-July period.
AWWA president of Gajraj Corps meets martyrs kin at Bhergaon
The Army Wives Welfare Association represented by Regional President AWWA, Gajraj Corps, Smt Sandhya Krishnan today met and offered deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of Sepoy (Late) Prabin Das of village Gogapara,Bhergaon in the district of Udalguri, who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting hard core terrorists in Srinagar, J& K on 24 June 2013.
Sepoy(Late) Prabin Das is survived by his mother Sewali Das and two brothers. Smt Sandhya Krishnan presented financial assistance to the mother of the martyr on behalf of Indian Army and promised all possible help to the bereaved family. Indian Army has a legacy of honouring its martyrs and taking care of their bereaved families.

Socio-economic problems of Bhutan and India discussed
An official level meet was held at Samrang on July 6 between Indian and Bhutan officials to enhance mutual cooperation and friendship. The meeting was held at Samrang forest IB (India) where civil,police and forest officials of both the country discussed a few common problems relating infrastructure development and conservation of nature and wildlife. Indian side officials namely- DN Hazarika,Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle; Ratul Pathak,BDO,Bhergaon Dev Block; Jayanta Das,Hony. Wildlife Warden,Udalguri along with other civil,police ,SSB,forest officials and a few media persons participated in the discussion.Bhutan side was represented by MB Srerung, Chairman, Samrang Panchayat of Royal Government of Bhutan and Madam Keyzang Delma, BDO Samrang and other officials.
On the occasion Chairman MB Srerung said that there had been only twenty thousand people in Sandrupjankhar district and total population of Bhutan is only seven lakhs. According to him there had neither been instances of killing of wild elephants nor human beings in Bhutan as Bhutan people love nature and wildlife. According to him antisocial elements illegally coming from Indian side had caused serious concern in Bhutan.Such people have started felling of trees in Bhutan,he alleged. madam Keyzang Delma,BDO also shared a few social problems with Indian officials.According to her unemployment is a social problem in Bhutan and 12.5% people are unemployed.The percentage of literacy among girls is high in Bhutan and proportion of literacy is 60:40 favouring girls.
Officials of both the country decided to start frequent official visits to either sides foe social and economic development of people living along international border. Decision was taken to start cultural exchange immediately.The matter of poor infrastructure along the border areas was also discussed.Bhutan officials requested Assam officials to improve the condition of the only road connecting Samrang with Dalim (a township 24 KM inside Bhutan) This road links Bhutan people to sub divisional HQ Daifam via Assam. BDO Bhergaon (Assam) assured that the road upto India-Bhutan border pollar would be improved soon. All the officials expressed satisfaction at the growing relation between two districts of two countries. It needs mention that another such DC level meeting was held at Daifam in May this year.The Deputy Commissioner, Udalguri Thaneswar Malakar and Deputy Commissioner Sandrupjhankar, Gholing Tshering discussed a few important matters in presence of all the district level officials of both the countries to enhance mutual cooperation.

64th Bon-mavotsav observed at Kalaigaon
The 64th Bon Mahotsav has been observed at Kalaigaon on July3.The programme was centrally arranged at Kalaigaon College premises in presence of hundreds of students,teachers and senior citizens. Students of the college joined plantation drive which was inaugurated by Arabinda Das, Principal,Kalaigaon College.On the occasion he felicitated two distinguished people of the district namely -Girindra Adhikari,DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri and Jagadish Sarkar,MCLA,BTC. Speaking to students teachers and people DFO Adhikari appealed all to to start plantation anywhere to prevent Uttrakhand like natural disasters. He said that it was not nature but human activities,responsible for the deaths of thousands in Uttrakhand and in other places.According to him without peoples cooperation and involvement it would never be possible to protect nature and wildlife in Assam. While talking to media persons,the DFO said that improvement of Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary,Khalingduar Reserve Forest and JFMC,Sapangaon would be given priority and more plantation would be done in JFMC Sapangaon.He said that Aranyak had assured Udalguri administration to install ten Solar panels at JFMC Sapangaon within July. He also thanked WWF India North Bank Programme for providing two Kunki elephants for checking “Man-elephant conflict” in Udalguri district. The programme was attended by Jagadish Sarkar, MCLA,BTC; Madhurya Sarma,ACF,Dhansiri Forest Division; Jayanta Das,Hony.Wildlife Warden, Udalguri; social worker Kami Ram Saharia and Kamal Prasad Sarma etc.
DKN distributed financial aids to poor and sick students at Kalaigaon
In a noble and unique attempt to share feelings and emotion of poor and sick students and to encourage them to move forward in their daily struggle, members of a Kalaigaon based organisation distributed cash aids to a few sick and poor students at Kalaigaon on June 29. The function was organised by the members of DKN (Durgat Kalyan Nyas) and was presided over by its founder president DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle. Lohit Chandra Nath,secretary of the Nyas introduced all the distinguished guests before felicitating them with a japi and gamocha each. On the occasion he recounted the story of the formation of the Nyas in 2007.He said that it was a spontaneous move of a few kind hearted people of Kalaigaon who had come forward to help the sick who never qualify for government norms.
Attending the function as a distinguished guest Jagadish Sarkar,MCLA,BTC thanked members of the Nyas for their contribution which would show rays of hope to those who had lost hopes in life. Prabhat Narayan Choudhury,Mouzadar,Mangaldai also known as poet, actor,writer and composer as another guest thanked members of the Nyas.He said,” Rapid social changes have taken away morality from people causing others to suffer”. Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Assam,Santias Kunjur attending the function as the chief guest shared his happiness with people present saying that it had been a rare moment in his life to meet people forming a Nyas with pocket money to help poor and sick. He further said that people of today hardly wait to help somebody in distress may be some one seriously injured in road accidents crying for help.He volunteered to be a member of the Nyas. Former chairperson of Assam Woman Commission Mridula Saharia, thanking people of Kalaigaon she proudly mentioned names of great social workers of Kalaigaon freedom fighter late Pani Ram Das and late Dr.Hara Nath Hazarika.She also said that she had great respect for people of Kalaigaon and Tangla as she was brought up at Kalaigaon when her father had been serving as SDC at Kalaigaon during British rule. Social worker Dr.Dipankar Saharia and Hony.Wildlife Warden Jayanta Das also attended and addressed the function as special guests.They too thanked people of Kalaigaon for joining hands to help poor and sick students. They also offered to join the Nyas as members.
The financially weak meritorious students numbering ten were given cash aids of rupees four thousands each while three critically ill children were given financial aids of rupees three thousand each. Kamal Prasad Sarma,Mouzadar,Kalaigaon offered vote of thanks at the end before distribution of two hundred saplings to all present.He also thanked R.Konwar, Range Officer of Khalingduar Reserve Forest and his staff for sponsoring the saplings.
