Protection of trans-boundary flora and fauna reviewed in Udalguri
A day long district level orientation programme for all the forest personnel working under Dhansiri Forest Division held at Bornagaon forest camp on November 16.Programme was organised by Dhansiri Forest Division in association with WWF Northbank Landscape Programme. The programme titled “ Strengthening Protection in Trans-boundary Manas Conservation Area” (Tra MCA) was inaugurated by Girindra Adhikari, DFO, Dhansiri Forest Division, at 11 am. On the occasion DFO directed forest personnel to cope up with latest developments of involvement of international illegal trading of flora and fauna and poaching of rhino and elephants in the tans-boundary areas bordering Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh.
Forest personnel from all the forests namely Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary; Khalingduar Reserve Forest and Mazbat Reserve Forest attended the orientation programme. WWF officials namely -Hiten Baishya, David Smith, Soumen Dey and Dr.Pranabjyoti Bora briefed forest personnel on illegal trading, poaching and unabated tree felling with multi media presentation.Jayanta Das,Hony. Wildlife Warden of Assam also attended the orientation programme. On the occasion WWF distributed new sets of jackets and sweaters to forest personnel working deep inside WLS and reserve forests of the district.
