State level Aryabhatta Science competition at Kalakhetra,Assam
The second state level Ayabhatta Science competition has commenced at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakhetra premises,Guwahati from November 10.Child scientists from most of the districts of Assam have participated in the two days state level science competition in three categories ie,science based model ,science based extempore spech and science based poster drawting.The participating students have already been screened twice in the block level and in the district level science based competitions being organized by various district administrations in association with Assam Science Technology and Environment Council,Guwahati under Ministry of Science and Technology,Goverment of Assam.The inaugural session was held at 9 am at the Kalakhetra,Guwahati premises. Dr.RK Barman,HOD Science & Technology Division of ASTEC welcomed all the students , teachers and guests requesting all to give importance of studying basic science,before Dr.SK Choudhury,Director ASTEC formally inaugurated the two days science competition for the young child scientists of the state.On the occasion Dr.Choudhuri said that government of Assam have given more importance to rural students keeping in mind the need for developing the rural atmosphere for a better future.He said that more and more students living in rural areas have done excellent works in the fild of science and technology.He remarked that some of the Aryabhatta science Centres of the state had done very well and such centres would be provided with new instruments like GPS etc in the next session.He thanked child scientists and teachers coming from different blocks for attending the state science meet defying bandh call yesterday.Several distinguished scholars and scientists of the state namely-Dr.Tarakeswar Choudhury,Chief Consultant of ASTEC;Dr.Nripen Deka,Dept.of Physics,Cotton College;Dr.Birinchi Das,Dept. Of Chemistry,Guwahati University;Dr.Surajit Barua,WWF,Guwahati,Champak Borbora noted artist working in The Assam Tribune and Kiran Shankar Roy noted artist of Nagaon.
The inaugural session followed the science based extempore speech competition and science based poster drawing competition which was conducted by noted artistists Champak Borbora and Kiran Shankar Roy. The programme will continue till November 11.A state level meet for the coordinators and Nodal Officers of the Aryabhatta Science Centres will be held tomorrow to discuss a few important matters.According to Biman Barua,Scientific Officer of ASTEC 134 students and 37 guide teachers from 24 districts have participated in the state level science based competition.He said no participants from Karimganj,Dhemaji and Chirang had attended the state level science session.
