Farmers training programme and supply of quality planting material held at Tangla

A Farmers training programme on crop production was organised by TERI under Mini Mission-I under Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture in NE States & Sikkim at Tangla, Udalguri on 6 April 2012. The objective of the programme is to familiarize the farmers in understanding the importance and utilities of new technologies for Production technology and plantation management. 200 farmers from the nearby areas of Tangla participated in the training, which was inaugurated by Dr. R.P Medhi, Director & Nodal Officer (TMNE), National Research Centre for Orchids (ICAR), Government of India. Dr Medhi said that considering immense potential of Horticulture development and in order to provide livelihood opportunities and bring prosperity in North Eastern States, the Govt. of India launched the “Technology Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture in NE Region”. Dr Medhi said that farmers should avail the benefit of the Mission – I and requested TERI to continue the work in the rural and backwards areas of Assam. Dipankar Saharia former Assam Civil Service Officer and presently chief coordinator,TERI,NE India organised the programme. Several distinguished people including senior citizens and media persons also attended the programme.
