Tree plantation at Udalguri Civil Hospital premises

On the occasion of Bon Mahotsav week 2012,Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri organised a plantation programme at the premises of Udalguri Civil Hospital on July 7 at 9 aAM. While welcoming distinguished guests and people Bankim Sarma,DFO, Dhansiri Forest Division gave in details of the plantation programme in Udalguri district.He said that massive plantation of 30,000 trees inside Khalingduar Reserve Forest near Indo-Bhutan border could very much draw international attention. The news which was published in The Assam Tribune was shared by international media like World News, The Pakistan Observer etc. Former Minister of Assam Rihon Daimari (presently MLA,Udalguri) attended the programme as the chief guest. Speaking on “Man-elephant conflict” and illegal tree felling in the district he said that failure to check illegal tree felling would pose serious threat to ecology of the district. He remarked that formation of more JFMC (Joint Forest Management Committee) even on small scale would help much. Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri advised forest department to locate vacant places suitable for plantation.He said that local bodies like schools could be given responsibility for the protection and maintenance of the trees.Dr.DK Hazarika,Joint Director, Health, Udalguri; social worker Rameswar Boro also spoke on the occasion. Latter MLA Daimari, DC Malakar and other officials planted several hundred trees in the hospital campus.
