Unemployment forcing youths to join insurgency in Udalguri

The formation of new extremist organozations in Udalguri district in BTAD has raised several questions on the prevailing of peace in the area as has been claimed by governments in Dispur and Kokrajhar. The rampant public allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds by contractors backed by politicians and officials have made common people disappointed. The recently developed political tussle between ruling BJP and BPF has also created instability. With zero jobs available both in public and private sectors, youths (both skilled and unskilled) have lost hope of a decent life started falling prey to anti social elements including extremist outfits and illegal traffickers. The exodus of Udalguri youths to other states of India for low level jobs has been increasing.Number of rescue of girls and women from illegal traffickers have also been alarming.Unfortunately the people in power have been putting a deaf ear to the alarming bells. The recent apprehension of Dipak Basumatary,Secretary of newly formed NFFB (National Freedom Fighters of Bodoland) raised another curtain.Udalguri police and jawans of 14 Dogra Regiment stationed at Borongajuli in Udalguri apprehended the out fit leader after several hours operation. He was apprehended at the premises of Khoirabari Raas Mela last Sunday while extorting money from traders.A loaded pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
